Academy of Technology, West Bengal Admission Experience

Before jumping into the admission process at the Academy of Technology(AOT), I’d like to mention to all the anime fans that this AOT is not your Attack on Titan. Though I’m a student here at AOT, I never thought I would be because before getting admission here I was looking to get admission to any NIT. I’m not telling IIT because I know what it takes to get into IITs. So, after getting the result of my JEE mains and saw the percentile 90.5 percentile with a rank of 85,000 in the general category. I was eligible for JEE advanced. With very poor preparation, I gave JEE advance and performed very poorly. Me and my family realized that I was not getting into IIT, so my mother and I took a train to West Bengal the very next day after the result of JEE advanced.

The chance of getting admission into this college begins by taking the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination(WBJEE) on 30th April 2022. I came to know about WBJEE from one of my seniors in my hometown. He was also a student at one of the colleges in Bengal now graduated. Though I prepared well in math and physics, I still found it hard to solve questions during exams and ended up getting an India rank of 18427 in WBJEE. During the WBJEE counselling in 2022, I opted for three colleges in Bengal, MCKV, AOT, and one other college in Kolkata. I guess, AOT was in my luck and I got allotted into AOT for BTech in Computer Science and Business Systems(CSBS).

The next day, after the result of JEE advanced, we took the train to West Bengal and reached Kolkata, the city of joy. I had already taken the exam of WBJEE, which is needed to get admission into one of the colleges of West Bengal and even fill the counselling for WBJEE and college preference just in case I didn’t get into IIT. Unfamiliar with the place because it was our first visit here, we came very far away from the college I was allotted. We somehow made it to the college with some trouble. I still remember it was pretty late in the evening, we reached college barely and when we got inside the college we got to know that the admission process had ended and we needed to come again tomorrow.

It was hard for us to visit again tomorrow because we had nowhere to stay during the night and had to leave for Howrah the same evening. My mom requested the admission charge and somehow they accepted it considering our situation that we have come from a very far place. They even took the admission fee and the first semester fee online though they don’t take it now. It was very kind of them because we couldn’t carry such a huge amount while travelling. They look for a lot of documents from class 10th, and 12th mark sheets to WBJEE results, from domicile to Aadhaar card, from birth certificate to guardian salary yearly income. Though, all these things are mentioned in the WBJEE websites during the counselling process.

There was a twist in the admission process, I was allotted BTech in CSBS and I thought of only CSE because someone told me and I applied for the upgrade, just because of this we had to wait there for a whole week. Luckily, my mom had someone about her in Kolkata so we stayed there during the result of the upgrade. Though, our wait didn’t was worth and I got the same branch, CSBS, even after the upgradation. So we went from Kolkata to the college the same day and got admission there. However, getting admission here wasn’t the worst decision rather it helped me visualize life with broader prospects. It taught me that college doesn’t matter for your success, if you have skills and work hard to achieve your goals you will do good.

This is my story of how I got admitted into the finest private college in West Bengal and the hurdles that needed to be carried out for admission. I hope this little story of mine helps you with making a proper plan for travelling, staying and the necessary documents needed for admission and how you can avoid these mistakes for your college admission as well.
