- Odisha Day: Odisha was carved out as a separate British India province & emerged out as the Odisha state on 1 April 1936.
- Ram Navami: Lord Rama, the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu was born. On this day, temples devoted to Rama are decorated. People offer water to the Sun God, who is believed to be the ancestor of Lord Rama.
- Babu Jagjivan Ram Birthday: Telangana celebrates the birthday of Babu Jagjivan Ram, a yesteryear politician who created the All-India Depressed Classes League. In 1937, he entered the Legislative Assembly of Bihar in 1937.
- Mahavir Jayanti: Lord Mahavir, the founder of Jainism was born on this day. This holds a lot of significance for the Jain community. On this day, people do charity & prayers are offered in temples dedicated to the him.
- Biju: The Chakma celebrate this three-day-long colourful festival in which various cultural programmes are held, highlighting the indigenous people’s distinctive cultural heritage. Biju marks the end of the previous year & celebrates the Bangla New Year.
- Bohag Bihu: Also known as Rongali Bihu- marks the beginning of the Assamese new year. Lots of feasts, music & dancing for almost a month in the state.
- Ashoka’s Birth Anniversary: While historians still cannot agree on the Mauryan emperor’s birth date, the Bihar government has declared April 14 as a public holiday to commemorate Ashoka’s birthday.
- Dr Ambedkar Jayanti: Commemorates the birth anniversary of B.R Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Indian constitution. On this day, processions paying homage to him are held & statues in honour of Ambedkar can be seen.
- Maha Vishuba Sankranti: Also known as Odia New year or Pana Sankranti or Mesha Sankranti, which marks the start of the new Odia almanac. On this day, people prepare a sweet concoction known as ‘Pana’ which is distributed amongst everyone.
- Bengali Nababorsho or Pohela Boisakh: Its date is set as per the solar Bengali calendar. Fairs, processions are held. Great time to spend with family & friends.
- Vishu: Kerala’s new year festival, it is when people offer oblations to Lord Vishnu. The day indicates the movement of the sun to Aries. Farmers begin the ploughing of land & other agricultural activities.
- Cheiraoba: Celebration of the Manipuri New year, a sacred festival during which people clean & decorate their houses. In honour of this day, the local people of Manipur climb the nearest hill tops, signifying the rise of the human civilization.
- Himachal Day: Commemorate the creation of Himachal Pradesh as a state. A grand parade takes place where the gathering is addressed by the Governor & the Chief Minister, many cultural programmes are also held.
- Vaisakhi: It is one of the harvest festivals in India. People sing, dance, and wear festive clothes. Marks the start of the new year in the Nanakshahi solar calendar. During Vaisakhi, the Khalsa Panth organisation was formed. Hence Sikhs, commemorate the first five men (a part of the Khalsa) alongwith their five symbols of purity & courage.
- Garia Puja: The ethnic tribes living in Tripura celebrate Garia Puja as a harvest festival with a lot of zeal. The puja is done to please God Garia who bestows people with peace, wealth, children & domestic animals.
