How to calculate TOEFL score?

TOEFL comprises four main sections: Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing. In each section, test-takers initially receive a raw score, which is then converted to a scaled score ranging from 0 to 30. These scaled scores from the four sections are then combined to calculate the final TOEFL score, which falls within the range of 0 to 120.

Each section is scored on a scale of 0 to 30, making the total score range from 0 to 120. Here’s how each section is evaluated:

  1. Reading: You will answer questions based on passages you read. Scores are based on the number of correct answers.
  2. Listening: You will answer questions based on audio clips you listen to. Scores are based on the number of correct answers.
  3. Speaking: You will complete speaking tasks, which are recorded and evaluated by human raters and AI scoring. Scores are based on fluency, coherence, and accuracy.
  4. Writing: You will write essays based on given prompts. Essays are scored by human raters and AI scoring based on content, organization, grammar, and vocabulary.

The individual section scores are added together to give your total TOEFL iBT score. Aim to practice and improve each section to achieve a balanced and competitive overall score.
