JavaScript RegExp m Modifier

The RegExp m Modifier in JavaScript is used to perform multiline matching. It takes the beginning and end characters (^ and $) as working when taking over multiple lines. It matches the beginning or end of each line. It is case-sensitive.

Syntax:

/regexp/m

or

new RegExp("regexp", "m")

Example 1: This example searches the word “w3wiki” at the beginning of each line in a string.

Javascript

function geek() {
    let str1 = "w3wiki is the computer "
        + "science portal for Beginner.";
    let regex4 = /^w3wiki/gm;
    let match4 = str1.match(regex4);

    console.log("Found " + match4.length
        + " matches: " + match4);
}
geek();

Output

Found 1 matches: w3wiki

 Example 2: This example searches the word “w3wiki” at the beginning of each line in a string and replaces it with “w3wiki”.

Javascript

function geek() {
    let str1 = "w3wiki is the computer "
        + "science portal for Beginner.";
    let regex4 = new RegExp("^w3wiki", "m");
    let replace = "w3wiki";
    let match4 = str1.replace(regex4, replace);
    console.log(" New string: " + match4);
