My Career Journey: From JEE to Engineering

A different feeling hits when it’s time to take admission to a college, especially in a different city. The journey is usually a big step from “Aspiration to Admission,” and every JEE aspirant has to go through it, typically after their senior secondary exams (12th grade).

During my JEE preparation, I experienced many ups and downs, and sometimes felt like giving up, especially when I had a significant backlog or scored poorly in the weekly tests. But what kept me motivated was knowing that the end would be beautiful if I studied hard.

For my JEE preparation, I took coaching from ALLEN in Kota, which was online because COVID-19 was at its peak. The faculty at ALLEN didn’t make us feel like we were missing out on anything. They were very engaging and cooperative. The ALLEN modules contained many exercises categorized by difficulty level, which were great for improving our problem-solving skills. The self-prepared notes also helped a lot. To further my understanding and solve more questions, I referred to many books like Concepts of Physics by HC Verma, Solomon, and many more.

After taking the exam, it’s crucial to handle the counseling process properly. If not done correctly, all your hard work can be in vain. I applied for counseling at many colleges like JOSAA, VIT, JIIT, AKTU, HBTU, etc. I suggest participating in multiple counseling sessions, even if you’re confident about getting admission to your preferred institution based on your JEE rank and previous year’s statistics. During counseling, colleges are filled in decreasing order of preference, meaning the most preferred colleges are filled first. I encountered many students who made mistakes in their choice of colleges. I recommend double-checking your choices before the final submission.

Counseling can be either online or offline. For instance, JOSAA counseling is online, while JIIT conducts counseling offline. After accepting a seat, the college requires fee payment and reporting. I suggest doing this as early as possible, or else the seat might be allotted to someone after the deadline. After completing these procedures, you’re finally in college, and your college life begins. Even if you don’t get into the college of your dreams, don’t panic. Life will give you more opportunities in college.

Eventually, I secured admission to JSS Academy of Technical Education, Noida. It may not have a very high NIRF ranking like the IITs, but it is the top college under AKTU. I was very excited to start a new journey from being a school student to a college student. It was a wonderful experience.

Shape yourself as much as you can in whichever college you get into. The college building doesn’t determine the opportunities you get; you create them for yourself!
