My Journey From Dreams of Engineering to a Career in HR

School life

I did high school at D.A.V. Public School with a Science and Math background. As an early teenager and a typical Bihari girl, I had always dreamed of becoming an Engineer. I had no interest in Govt. sector jobs, unlike my friends since school time. I encountered some of my school seniors back then in 2005–2008 time who had been placed in good software companies and some of them got settled in the US so I started dreaming of my future career as an Engineer. When I completed the 12th board, I went to face some IIT entrance exams like AIEEE, West Bengal IIT exam, IIT, etc. without any preparation and realized that this was not my cup of tea. Finally dropped my idea of becoming an engineer and started exploring my interests and hobbies.

College Life, Graduation days

When I was dreaming and exploring my interest in my future career, my father started seeing an eligible groom for me. I was just 18 or 19 years old back then. When I heard this news I was devastated but I fought back for myself and after a 20–30 days struggle, my father agreed to my further studies. Meanwhile, I realized my keen interest in the corporate world and management. So, I packed my bags and left for Ranchi, Jharkhand. My father was with me, he got me admitted to ICFAI University and I opted for a B.B.A (Bachelor in Business Administration). Studied with all my mind and heart, grabbed a deep knowledge, and did a summer internship as well.

During graduation days, I always imagined myself as a future Manager and fantasised a lot about the day becoming a reality one day. Upon the completion of graduation in 2013, I left for home. Cutting the story short here, before moving to my home town I made sure and managed to be admitted for higher study (Master in Business Administration) at Abdul Kalam Technical University (GNIT)-Gr. Noida. I was sure when I returned to my home town my mother would try to convince me to marriage.

But, I had already seen myself as a future Manager and wanted to complete my Master’s degree.

Post Graduation Days

Gr. Noida is such a dessert place 9no offence, just mentioning my experience here). Managed somehow 2 yrs. to complete the MBA course. Learned and grabbed some more knowledge. Policed my personality, as well as my dream job, was very near. An image of Human Resources was always in my heart and mind. I just couldn’t wait to see myself as an HR personnel.

Early Job Days

In 2015 I completed an MBA and joined my 1st organization- Hindustan Times Media Ltd. My parents had now started forcing a lot for marriage but I was not at all ready and was not mentally prepared. So, continued my job for the next 4 years. I am a proud HR and a homemaker today. I appreciate myself and feel so proud today to fight back for myself just to pursue my career. I thank God for giving me so much strength and courage to do all these alone.
