My Journey From School to Pursuing a B.Tech at Guru Tegh Bahadur Institute of Technology

Tech enthusiasts, welcome! My name is Yash Aggarwal and currently, I am enrolled on a Bachelor’s degree program in Information Technology at Guru Tegh Bahadur Institute of Technology (GTBIT) which is affiliated with Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU). It gives me joy that I can share my educational journey with you today, and hopefully, it will be beneficial to some of you.

School Beginning

I was drawn into the world of technology when I was still a student. How computers functioned and how they could be coded to do different things was always fascinating to me. This attraction became more intense with every programming contest and science fair that I attended. These initial instances intensified my enthusiasm for IT as well as moved me towards becoming an IT expert.

Making My Career Choice

The decisive moment came after my high school education when I had to choose the right career path. Although I knew that technology was what fascinated me most, it became important for me to ensure that whatever course I studied would provide a solid foundation for my growth prospects. After extensive consultation with mentors and research, I resolved to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology.

Preparing for Entrance Examinations

Getting admitted to a renowned engineering college requires thorough preparation. I dedicated a lot of time and energy towards getting ready for exams such as JEE and IPU CET. Striking a balance between my school studies and exam preparations was tough but with focus and discipline. To strengthen my concepts in Science subjects, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, I joined some coaching classes.

Why GTBIT?

Upon receiving my acceptance letter from GTBIT, I jumped up in excitement. This institution is perfect for me because they are related to GGSIPU and have built a name in quality IT education. However, it soon emerged that the institution wasn’t very big in terms of land area and had limited facilities that were lacking.

Campus Life and Learning Experience

Since when I came here at GTBIT, it has been nothing short of an adventure. While the curriculum is well-structured covering programming languages & data structures, networking & cyber security etc., the teaching quality though good is not excellent itself. Labs have all the instruments needed but their capacity does not meet high-end institutions’ standards sometimes which is surprising indeed. In addition, there are times when some teachers fail to give their lessons full concentration thereby hindering the learning experience at large.

Extracurricular Activities

The school promotes extracurricular activities, and I have remained an active member of technology clubs and societies. These forums have enabled me to work with other students who have similar interests as mine, do research on innovative projects as well as participate in hackathons and coding contests. Beyond technical skills development, these encounters have also helped to improve my teamwork and problem-solving abilities.

Campus Placements

However, one area where the college falls behind is campus placements. The placement opportunities are not that many or of a higher standard as expected by many. Many students including myself were left without options but to look for jobs outside the campus recruitment process.

Lessons Learned

I have learned some good lessons that I would like to share from my journey:

  • Be Curious And Keep Learning: Tech is a dynamic field; hence ensure you frequently update yourself on the current trends and always seek new information.
  • Practice Makes Perfect: For any technical skill, consistent training and practice are essential for mastery.
  • Take On Challenges: Do not avoid difficult situations because they can be learning experiences.
  • Networking And Collaboration: Create relationships with colleagues, mentors, and experts among others. Working together can be a source of innovation and doors to greener pastures.

Conclusion:

My experience with Information Technology has been all about learning, development and some difficulties. Although there have been problems with infrastructure as well as faculty inattention, I have made the best of my time at GTBIT. I want to thank the whole community of GTBIT and GGSIPU for their support and the opportunity to receive this education. My aim is that my words will inspire and guide other students like me who have similar dreams. Don’t forget – success requires hard work, persistence and a love for knowledge. Have a great journey!
