My Journey From School Topper to Aspiring Engineer

I attended NGFS Alaknanda School, where my academic experience was relatively mediocre. Despite the overall environment, I consistently stood out as the school topper. From an early age, I had a keen interest in understanding how things work, which gradually evolved into a budding dream of becoming an engineer. I spent countless hours dismantling gadgets and experimenting with different materials, much to my parents’ dismay. My passion for engineering was nurtured by my teachers who encouraged me to delve deeper into subjects like mathematics and science.

As I progressed through school, the goal of becoming an engineer became more concrete. To pursue this dream, I took the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Mains and Advanced, which are the gateways to prestigious engineering institutes in India. Preparing for these exams was rigorous and demanding, but I was determined to succeed. The countless hours of study and the numerous practice tests paid off when I secured a good rank in both exams.

Currently, I am pursuing a Bachelor of Technology (B. TECH) degree from the Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women (IGDTUW), Delhi. This institution is known for its excellent faculty and research opportunities, and it was my top choice. The curriculum here is challenging yet rewarding, and it provides a perfect blend of theoretical knowledge and practical skills.

To achieve my career goals, I adopted several strategies. Time management was crucial; balancing schoolwork, JEE preparation, and personal life required a disciplined schedule. I followed a structured study plan that included daily goals and regular revisions. Group studies and discussions with peers also played a significant role in enhancing my understanding of complex concepts. Additionally, I took online courses and attended workshops to supplement my learning and stay ahead in the competitive environment.

Through my journey, I learned several important do’s and don’ts:

Do’s:

• Set Clear Goals: Having a clear vision of what you want to achieve helps in staying focused and motivated.
• Seek Help: Don’t hesitate to ask for help from teachers, mentors, or peers. Collaborative learning can provide new perspectives and solutions.
• Stay Consistent: Consistency is key in preparation. Regular study and practice lead to gradual improvement and confidence.

Don’ts:

• Avoid Procrastination: Delaying tasks can lead to unnecessary stress and compromised performance.
• Don’t Ignore Health: Maintaining a healthy lifestyle with proper sleep, nutrition, and exercise is essential for optimal performance.
• Avoid Negative Comparisons: Comparing yourself to others can be demotivating. Focus on your own progress and celebrate small achievements.

One of my significant successes was securing admission to IGDTUW, a dream I had nurtured for years. This success was a culmination of hard work, dedication, and strategic preparation. However, my journey wasn’t without its share of failures. During my first semester, I struggled with the transition from school to university. The rigorous curriculum and high expectations were overwhelming, and I failed to meet my own academic standards initially. This experience taught me resilience and the importance of seeking help when needed. With time, I adapted and improved my performance, turning those initial setbacks into valuable learning experiences.

Reflecting on my career journey so far, I can say it has been a blend of challenges, learning, and growth. The road was not always smooth, but every obstacle taught me something valuable. My journey from a curious schoolgirl dismantling gadgets to a B. TECH student at IGDTUW has been fulfilling and transformative. The key takeaway from my experience is that persistence and a positive mindset are crucial in overcoming challenges and achieving one’s goals. I am excited about the future and the opportunities that lie ahead as I continue to pursue my passion for engineering.
