NIT Delhi Admission experience

Hello everyone!

I’m here to share my admission experience at the National Institute of Technology, Delhi. Currently, I’m a second-year student pursuing Mechanical Engineering at NIT Delhi. I secured admission based on my JEE mains rank, which is the qualifying exam for entry into NITs, IITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. I enrolled in college in 2022, coinciding with the introduction of Mechanical Engineering as a department, alongside Computer Science Engineering, Electronics Engineering, and Electrical Engineering, previously the only branches available at NIT Delhi.

Eligibility Criteria:

Admission into NIT Delhi requires qualifying the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE mains). Each college sets its opening and closing ranks for different branches, and meeting the cutoff range secures admission to the respective branch.

Application Process:

The admission process comprises two phases: an online phase and an offline phase. In the online phase, known as Jossa counselling, JEE mains-qualified students select their college preferences and branches. If their rank falls within the cutoff range for their chosen branch, they receive admission. The offline phase involves reporting to the college and submitting necessary documents to confirm admission.

Reasons for Choosing NIT Delhi:

My decision to opt for NIT Delhi stemmed from a combination of college preference and my rank. Despite not qualifying for Computer Science and Engineering, I chose NIT Delhi due to its impressive placement statistics and strategic location in the capital city of India, facilitating access to top tech domains. While I ended up in Mechanical Engineering, my priority was the institution itself over the specific branch. Although NIT Delhi was established in 2010, its continually improving placement statistics make it an attractive choice for students.

Being part of the inaugural batch of Mechanical Engineering at NIT Delhi is a source of pride for us. While initially, there were fewer enrollments compared to other branches, the intake has increased since 2022, including in Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering.

We’re thrilled to be the first batch of Mechanical Engineering students at NIT Delhi, alongside the existing MTech and PhD students. NIT Delhi offers a comprehensive range of programs, including BTech, MTech, and PhD.

Thank you
