NMMS Examination Experience

Hey Readers…!

Introducing Myself and the exam I took :

I want to share my NMMS(National Means cum Merit Scholarship) competitive exam – a National level competitive scholarship examination scheme for 8th-standard students who are studying in Government and Government-aided schools. It helps to retain the talented students in schools. The students who clear the exam will get a scholarship amount of 1000/- per month for four years from class 8th to 12th standard. The NMMS exam contains two tests.

1. Mental Aptitude Test (MAT)

The mental Aptitude Test consists of 90 multiple-choice questions testing verbal and nonverbal meta-cognitive abilities like reasoning and critical thinking.

2. Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)

Scholastic Aptitude Test consists of 90 multiple choice questions spanning subjects namely science, social studies, and mathematics based on the curriculum of Class 7th and 8th.

Preparation Phase :

preparation for the NMMS demanded a strategic and dedicated approach. Here are the steps, resources, and strategies I followed while preparing for the NMMS.

To prepare for the NMMS exam I have taken the tuition from an institute. I used to go daily to that institute to practice. I took 1 month of preparation from that institution. Even though I didn’t clear the exam, I gained competitive exam experience. But I have given my 100% effort to crack the exam. That coaching institution helped me to prepare better, in the coaching institute, my friends and other students made me to become competitive. Also, I referred to one book which contains the previous year’s exam questions along with answers. I practiced one question paper daily, if I wasn’t able to answer that then only I referred to the solutions.

The exam is based on the OMR sheet, the candidates have to round and shade the answers on the OMR sheet. So that I practice with the OMR sheet also.

Resources I used :

I followed one book to prepare for the exam, which consists of previous year question papers along with the answers and their explanations.

I wrote this exam during my 8th standard, in that phase I don’t have much resources available, So I went into the coaching institution. There I started preparing along with my peers. I tried to solve more questions in that caoching centre. After coming to home, I tried to solve the previous year questions.

Strategies I followed :

During my preparation I followed some strategies. They are as follows….

1. I made a schedule – which is also known as time table, it consists of work priorities, after completing the school hours I have to go the coaching centre which is present in town(12km far from my house) to prepare for the exam. So during coaching times I followed the teachers lectures. The coaching period is 6PM to 9PM. After coming to the home I prepared previous year questions for two hours.

2. Revision – During weekends I tried to revise the concepts whatever I studied during week days.

3. Making notes – Whatever the key points I noticed during my preparation I noted them in a seperate notes which helped me to revise before exam quickly.

4. Taking study breaks – Even the coaching centre also provides the breaks between every hour. Taking breaks between study helps to improve brain strength, it relaxes the mind. So that you will be able to concentrate more on preparation.

My experience on the day of the exam :

Actually I get to know that my exam centre is very far from my home town(took 3 to 4hrs journey). So I woke at 3’O clock and I prepared for 1 hour and After getting ready for the exam, I took all the necessary things to write the exam and I had my breakfast and went to the exam centre. Before entering into the exam centre I was little bit nervous, during the exam I believed the truth that I should write the exam properly.

The exam started on time after verifying all the documents, before writing the exam I carefully studied all the instructions, then I started writing the exam. First I wrote all the questions I know. Then last 30mins I tried to solve the unknown questions and the exam is completed.

Challenges I faced during the exam and how I overcame them :

The challenges I faced during the exam is as follows….

1. Felt little bit nervous

2. Exam anxiety is the most common thing

3. Time management

4. Stress

The challenges I faced during my exam, but I took 1 minute deep breathe and sitting in relaxing position helped me get out of them.

Exam Results :

Finally one day exam results came, even I got good marks but I was not able to crack the scholarship due to some reservations issues. But this exam helped me improve my logical thinking and time management.

Finally what I wanted to say is, whatever the exam or anything, never miss any opportunity, just give your 100% effort. And Don’t focus on the result just focus on the process. It will help you get success one day definitely.
