PK Roy Memorial College Campus Experience

Hey Beginner,

In this article, I’ll be sharing my campus experience at PK Roy Memorial College, which is affiliated with Binod Bihari Mahto Koyalanchal University (BBMKU). As a middle-class boy from Dhanbad, Jharkhand, I want to give you a glimpse into my journey from schooling to college life, the challenges, and the opportunities I’ve encountered.

I’m hailing from Dhanbad, Jharkhand. I completed my Class 10 and 12 from DAV Public School, Kusunda, under the CBSE board. After finishing school, I was admitted to PK Roy Memorial College to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science.

When I first arrived at PK Roy Memorial College, I was excited and a bit apprehensive. The campus, though not as grand as some of the top-tier colleges, had a welcoming feel. The infrastructure was modest but functional, and I was eager to start this new phase of my life.

Campus Life

Life at PK Roy Memorial College is quite different from what I had imagined. The college is a typical third-tier institution, so the resources and facilities are limited compared to more prestigious colleges. However, what it lacks in resources, it makes up for in the dedication of the faculty and the camaraderie among students.

  • Academics: The Computer Science department has knowledgeable professors who are always willing to help. They encourage practical learning, which is crucial for our field. The curriculum is designed to cover the basics thoroughly, which has helped me build a strong foundation.
  • Extracurricular Activities: Despite the limited resources, the college has various clubs and societies. I joined the Coding Club, where I got to work on projects and participate in hackathons. These activities have been instrumental in enhancing my technical skills and confidence.

Facilities

The facilities at PK Roy Memorial College are basic but adequate. The library has a decent collection of books, though it could benefit from more up-to-date resources. The computer labs are well-maintained, providing the necessary tools for our coursework. The campus also has a small cafeteria that serves as a popular spot for students to relax and socialize.

Accommodation

Since I live in Dhanbad, I commute to college daily. However, I have friends who stay in the college hostel. The accommodation is decent with basic amenities. Living in the hostel fosters a sense of community among students, and many of my friends have shared stories of their late-night study sessions and the fun they have together.

Placements and Internships

One of the significant challenges we face at PK Roy Memorial College is the lack of on-campus placements. Being a third-tier college, companies don’t frequently visit our campus for recruitment. However, there have been some improvements. Last year, TCS came to our campus and offered job opportunities to several students, which was a huge morale boost.

  • Off-Campus Preparation: Due to limited on-campus placements, I am also preparing for off-campus opportunities. I regularly apply through online job portals and attend career fairs. Platforms like LinkedIn and Naukri have helped me showcase my skills and connect with HR professionals directly.
  • Online Learning: To stay competitive, I’ve been taking online courses on platforms like Coursera and Udemy. These courses help me acquire new skills and keep up with the latest industry trends.

Conclusion:

My journey at PK Roy Memorial College has been a mix of challenges and learning experiences. Despite the limited resources, the supportive faculty and the bonds I’ve formed with fellow students have made it worthwhile. For those considering similar colleges, I would advise focusing on self-improvement, utilizing online resources, and networking as much as possible. Your dedication and hard work can open doors, even if your college isn’t the most renowned.

Remember, success comes from perseverance and the will to make the most of available opportunities. Keep learning and stay motivated!

Happy studying, and good luck!
