Python VLC Instance – Play the specific Media/Broadcast
In this article we will see how we can play specific media from the Instance class in the python vlc module. VLC media player is a free and open-source portable cross-platform media player software and streaming media server developed by the VideoLAN project. Instance act as a main object of the VLC library with the Instance object we can create media player, list player or any other player available in VLC. Instance class the base classed used in VLC to create various objects. A instance can have multiple video and they get played one after other although we can play specific media as well.
In order to do this we will use
vlm_play_media
method with the Instance objectSyntax : instance.vlm_play_media(name)
Argument : It takes media/broadcast name as argument
Return : It returns 0 on success, -1 on error
Below is the implementation
# importing vlc module import vlc # importing time module import time # creating Instance class object player = vlc.Instance() # creating a new media list media_list = player.media_list_new() # creating a media player object media_player = player.media_list_player_new() # creating a new media media = player.media_new( "death_note.mkv" ) # adding media to media list media_list.add_media(media) # setting media list to the mediaplayer media_player.set_media_list(media_list) # playing the media player.vlm_play_media( "death_note" ) # wait so the video can be played for 5 seconds # irrespective for length of video time.sleep( 5 ) |
