Samsung Interview Experience

In March, Samsung visited YMCA University for a recruitment drive, seeking candidates for Software Development Engineer positions. Due to the economic downturn, the intake was limited. The criteria for application were specific:

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Registerations were exclusive to students pursuing B. Tech in Computer Science or specialized fields within CS. B. Tech in Information Technology students were not eligible.
  • A minimum of 60% in both the 10th and 12th standard examinations.
  • A CGPA of 7 or higher.

A total of 135 students applied for the opportunity. The selection process comprised three stages, detailed as follows:

Round 1 (Coding Assessment): Conducted in the university’s computer lab under the supervision of Samsung representatives, this round featured a single coding problem to be solved within three hours. The challenge included 10 test cases, all of which had to be passed before submission. The problem, of moderate complexity, revolved around the Binary Search algorithm and involved determining the value of ‘N’ for which a certain equation’s result matched a given integer.

Round 2 (Technical Interview): Out of the initial applicants, 15 progressed to this stage, with an additional 5 on standby. Candidates faced questions on intermediate-level Data Structures and Algorithms, particularly concerning Graphs and Trees, such as cycle detection in graphs and finding the Lowest Common Ancestor (LCA) in trees. Questions also covered fundamental computer science principles and programming languages. The difficulty level here was moderate.

Round 3 (HR Interview): This final stage was more relaxed, focusing on standard HR inquiries.

Ultimately, from the 135 hopefuls, only 5 were chosen for the SDE role.
