Shri Vishnu Engineering College For Women Campus Experience

Shri Vishnu Engineering College for Women (SVECW) was founded by B.V. Raju in 2001. It is located in Bhimavaram, Andhra Pradesh. It is one of the best colleges in Andhra Pradesh. I am studying 4th year B.Tech in SVECW under the stream of Information Technology. Let’s quickly dive into my college journey.

First Year

I gained admission to SVECW through the AP EAMCET examination. My EAMCET rank is 14309, which was not high enough to secure a spot in the CSE program. Instead, I was offered a seat in Information Technology. Later, I learned that IT is similar to CSE. Due to the pandemic, our batch spent the entire first year attending online classes. We only went to college to take exams. I learned C, and Python in the first year.

Second Year

In the middle of the second year, the first semester, we began our offline college journey. During this time, we learned about data structures, web development, DBMS, Java, operating systems, and computer organization as part of our academic curriculum. Additionally, we were introduced to programs like WISE (Women in Software Engineering) and C&DS training. In WISE, we received training in Python and were tasked with developing a project using Python. This project allowed me to learn about team collaboration, communication, and project implementation. During the C&DS training, we learned problem-solving techniques and how to write programs in an optimized way. These trainings greatly helped me to easily pass interview rounds.

Third Year

During our third year, we studied computer networks, data science, compiler design, and mobile application development as part of our academic curriculum. Additionally, we received training in advanced data structures through the C&DS program. We also participated in Campus Recruitment Training (CRT), where we were prepared for written tests in placements by improving our aptitude, pseudocode, verbal, and logical ability skills. Our Head of the Department (HOD) guided the preparation for placements. The faculty conducted mock interviews and offered feedback to help us identify areas for improvement. Their support was instrumental in helping me succeed in the interview. Furthermore, I completed a one-month internship at CodeClause and worked on a project related to Online Hostel Room Booking.

Fourth Year

During the fourth year, companies come to campus to hire students. We must balance our academics and the job placement journey. In terms of academics, I learned about cloud computing, software testing, and the Spring Boot framework. I worked hard to improve my aptitude, verbal, and logical abilities. I used Beginner for Beginner to read about the interview experiences of companies. Even if we can’t secure a job, it’s important to stay confident and strong during the placement process. The college provides equal chances for all students, and even during a recession, a good number of people got placed. Around 170 out of 210 members in our branch got placed, and companies are still hiring. Thanks to the training and support from the college and faculty, I have three job offers in my hand. I am grateful to our college, the HOD sir, and other faculty for their tremendous support.

Hackathons

  • A 24-hour hackathon was held by our department in my 2nd year, where we needed to provide a web application solution for the given problem.
  • A 12-hour marathon was kept by our department in 3rd year, where we needed to work on data science algorithms to solve a problem.

B.Tech is not just about studies, but also about having fun. There is a lot of fun in our college. We celebrate various events such as Freshers Day, Women’s Day, DJ nights, International Dance Day, New Year, etc. I enjoyed it a lot. Sometimes film stars come to college for movie promotions. Our college has a theatre, gym, canteen, bakery, and store. They also provide us with cycles to roam around the campus in the evenings. Finally, I can say that even though it is a women’s college there is a lot of fun in our college.
