UI Design of Video Streaming Website

A Video Streaming Website is basically an application where people can interact through others all over the world by means of connecting through videos. This article covers basic designing principles through which one can make the UI of a video streaming application which is highly user interactive and dynamically responsive.

Color Theory:

A primary color must be chosen for the website and as this website involves mostly the use of videos and images, one dark theme color would suffice for the header and side bar navigation. You can also choose a light based theme or color.

Negative Spaces:

As shown in the pictures below, ample amount of negative spaces have been used, that is a lot of blank spaces have been left to enhance the user interactivity and readability and visibility of the website.

Alignment:

An ordered fashion of alignment is necessary for all the videos otherwise the website may look cluttered and improper alignment might result in reduction in users as the UI needs to be perfect.

Grid System:

A grid system is used while displaying the different videos and their thumbnails, particularly on the home page. The Grid system enhances user interactivity and visibility of the videos.

Typography:

Selection of an appropriate font is important for the website as after the image one more reason to view a video would be it’s description & title. These must be clear and catchy.

Use of Infographics & Buttons:

Infographic elements can be enhanced by using better thumbnails and videos and make the website look more colorful. Apart from this several buttons such as to like, or dislike or share or comment on the video can be created on the website to increase the user interactivity and make it more engaging.

The Home Page must consist of options to search for different videos, a side bar section highlighting links of important pages and a glimpse of videos based on the feed or interests of the viewer’s account.

The Accounts Page must consist of the account holder’s details, the email id, description and uploads on the video streaming platform if any by the user.

The Trending Categories Page consists of all the trending shorts and videos on the platform with a title of the videos or shorts. The side bar navigation and header remain intact.

The Media Playing Page consists of the specific video that is being played, and beside that several other recommendations to the user to watch videos. Under the media playback button there are options to like, dislike, share the video and under that a section of description of the video & comments.

Thus, creating a video streaming website UI is all about being catchy enough to engage the audience and the viewers. It should also be able to provide a platform to the users to showcase their creativity by unleashing their innovation and also have a look at other’s creativity.
