What is there in the IELTS Academic Writing Paper?
In the IELTS Academic Writing paper, there are two tasks:
Task 1: Data Description
- Content: Candidates are required to describe visual information presented in one or more charts, graphs, tables, maps, or diagrams.
- Objective: The task assesses the candidate’s ability to summarize and explain the main features, trends, or processes in the provided data.
- Word Count: Candidates should write at least 150 words.
- Skills Tested:

- Identifying significant trends and differences
- Using appropriate language and vocabulary
Task 2: Essay Writing
- Content: Candidates must write an essay responding to a point of view, argument, or problem. They need to present their ideas clearly, provide supporting evidence, and give examples where relevant.
- Objective: This task evaluates the candidate’s ability to construct a coherent argument and use persuasive language.
- Word Count: Candidates should write at least 250 words.

- Using a wide range of vocabulary and complex sentence structures
Key Points to Remember
- Timing: Allocate around 20 minutes for Task 1 and 40 minutes for Task 2.
- Assessment Criteria: Responses are evaluated based on task achievement, coherence and cohesion, lexical resource, and grammatical range and accuracy.
- Preparation Tips:
