Galgotias University Campus Experience 2

Hey everyone! I’m a sophomore at Galgotias University, doing my Bachelors in Tech for Computer Science and Engineering, with a cool specialization in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. Get ready for the inside scoop on my experience so far – it’s been crazy fun!

Campus Life: Green Space and Tech Gear

Galgotias has a giant green campus (like, 52 acres!) that’s a nice break from the city. There are three buildings for classes, a dorm with a cafeteria to keep everyone fed, and even a special area for the agriculture department. They have courts for pretty much every sport you can think of, basketball, football, cricket – awesome! But the coolest part is the labs. We’re talking top-notch equipment, with some computer labs having the latest Intel processors (though a few could use an update). Plus, they have this one-of-a-kind IOS Development Center in all of North India – pretty neat! As for the classrooms, they’re air-conditioned with comfy seats, a fingerprint scanner for attendance (no more forgetting your ID!), and projectors for clear lessons.

Freshman Year: New City, New Friends

Let’s be real, freshman year is a whirlwind. I left home for the first time and ended up in a completely new city, Greater Noida. No familiar faces, just a ton of excitement (mixed with a little nervousness). I stayed at a private hostel about 15 kilometers away, but they took care of getting me to and from campus, which was a lifesaver. The first week was all about getting settled in, and that’s where I met my best friend – turns out, being nervous together can make you close! Classes started a week later, and since the first year was the same for everyone, we took subjects like electrical stuff, electronics, and even mechanical engineering. By the end of the month, I had made a bunch of new friends in my classes too. Time flies when you’re learning new things, and my first semester flew by in just four months. Exams were easier than the 12th boards – a huge relief! The second semester meant more subjects and longer days (three full days of classes and two half-days each week), but the classes weren’t super hard, so I managed. By June, the semester ended, and it was time for a well-deserved three-month break!

Sophomore Year: Dorm Life, Deep Dives, and Big Dreams

This year, I decided to live in the dorm to avoid the commute. The food isn’t amazing compared to my old place, but it fills my stomach. Classes started again in October after a long break, and this semester was smooth sailing. By now, I had a bunch of freshman friends who looked to me for help, so I was happy to answer their questions and show them the ropes. This semester was all about the core computer science subjects – stuff like databases, computer organization, and data structures – the important stuff! Four months later, it was breaking time again.

But hold on, there’s more! February 26th, 2024 marked the start of my favorite semester yet. Why? Because I competed in my first hackathon with 150 other teams from different universities! My team even came in fourth place – pretty awesome! This semester has been all about grabbing opportunities. Just recently, 15 of us from Galgotias got to visit the Cognizant office in Gurugram – an amazing trip that showed us what the real world is like.

Galgotias University is all about helping students succeed. They have hackathons, company visits, research events – you name it. There are also tons of student clubs, which are great for learning new skills and making memories. And let’s not forget Unifest, one of the biggest festivals in North India – a must-do for any Galgotias student!

So, that’s my story so far. To all the new freshmen out there, welcome! It’s going to be a blast.
