GKSM NGO Work Experience

After my 3rd semester of engineering, I completed a rural internship at GKSM NGO, located in Vyara, Gujarat. During my time there, I had the opportunity to work on several impactful projects aimed at improving the lives of people in rural areas. Our main focus areas were cyber security awareness and women empowerment. Here’s an overview of the work we did and the experiences I had.

Cyber Security Awareness

Workshops and Training Sessions:

  1. We conducted workshops in various rural communities to educate people about basic cyber security principles.
  2. Topics covered included safe internet practices, recognizing phishing attempts, and protecting personal information online.
  3. We used interactive sessions and real-life examples to make the content relatable and easy to understand.

Collaborations with Local Schools:

  1. Partnered with local schools to integrate cyber security education into their curriculum.
  2. Developed age-appropriate materials to teach children about online safety, responsible use of social media, and the dangers of cyberbullying.

Distribution of Educational Materials:

  1. Created and distributed brochures, posters, and handouts that provided easy-to-follow cyber security tips.
  2. Used visual aids and local languages to ensure the information was accessible to everyone, regardless of literacy levels.

Women Empowerment

Skill Development Programs:

  1. Organized workshops to teach women various vocational skills such as tailoring, handicrafts, and basic computer literacy.
  2. These programs were designed to help women gain financial independence and improve their economic status.

Health and Hygiene Education:

  1. Conducted sessions on health, hygiene, and nutrition to ensure women in rural areas have access to essential health information.
  2. Collaborated with local health professionals to provide accurate and practical advice.

Impact and Outcomes

Increased Awareness:

  1. We saw a notable increase in awareness about cyber security among rural populations, leading to safer online practices.
  2. Women gained valuable skills and knowledge, empowering them to take on new roles in their communities and contribute economically.

Community Feedback:

  1. We received positive feedback from participants who felt more confident and informed after attending our programs.
  2. Many women reported starting their own small businesses or gaining employment as a result of our skill development programs.

Sustainable Change:

  1. Established ongoing programs and local partnerships to ensure the sustainability of our efforts.
  2. Encouraged community leaders to continue advocating for cyber security and women’s empowerment.

Working with GKSM NGO has been an incredibly rewarding experience. The impact we made in spreading cyber security awareness and empowering women in rural areas has been profound. I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to such meaningful work and look forward to continuing to support these important initiatives. I am thankful to my college , in which curriculum has these type of working opportunity.
