JEE Mains Exam Experience

Hi,I belong to Mandla, Madhya Pradesh, and I am currently pursuing a B.Tech degree from Gyan Ganga Institute of Technology and Science, Jabalpur, MP. I want to share my entrance exam experience. I took the JEE Mains four times in a year during the COVID pandemic. Due to COVID, there was a lot of mess, but I studied 7-8 hours a day since schools were closed because of the spread of the virus. It was also very difficult to go to the exam centers during that time.

In my first attempt, I had to go to Jabalpur for the exam. I reached there half an hour early, which was good. I recommend you guys reach the center early for any exam. Once I arrived, I had to sit in the lab for at least half an hour. Most importantly, they didn’t allow anything with you like rings, bracelets, watches, earrings, or any metal items. The water bottle had to be transparent, and you had to wear slippers, not shoes. I suggest you leave all metal items at home because if they find anything, whether gold or brass, they will take it. They also don’t allow pen and paper; everything is provided there.

During my time, due to COVID, I had to wear a mask, but they provided masks and required us to wear those. It’s crucial to take all your documents, like your Aadhaar card and two passport-sized photos, which should match the ones in the enrollment form. You can take any identity proof you want, but you must bring your enrollment form. After a thorough check, you sit for at least half an hour before they announce to open your desktop and start the exam. All instructions are given by them.

In my first attempt, I scored very low, around 50.6 marks. But due to COVID, we had the opportunity to take the exam four times, and the questions were a bit easier that year. The question paper included Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics from the 11th and 12th-grade basics. There is a negative marking of -1 for each wrong answer and +4 for each correct one. In my first attempt, Chemistry was a bit tough, but Physics was easy. After all four attempts, my maximum score was 76 percentile.

I recommend studying previous years’ question papers and focusing on the 11th and 12th-grade basics as nothing beyond that is included. Although I qualified for JEE Advanced, I didn’t take it because, coming from a middle-class family, my parents didn’t allow me to go to IITs, which are far from my home. Instead, I took admission to Gyan Ganga, which is just 100 km away from my hometown.

So, yeah, this was my experience with JEE Mains.
