It is the 15th largest state by area, and the 14th largest by population.The state comprises twenty-four districts of the recent Bihar (eighteen at the time of bifurcation). With an area of 74,677 Sq km, the new state is bordered by Bihar, Chattisgarh, Orissa, and West Bengal to its north, west, south and east respectively. Ranchi is the capital of Jharkhand.
