Location:

It’s located in the suburbs of Chennai, a metropolitan city, which is advantageous when compared to many other universities in India. The campus is huge, but still in no way comparable to IIT-Madras, which is like a jungle (literally) in the middle of the city. SRM is well connected by local trains to most parts of the city. It is very near to Vandeleur Zoo and it has a three-star hotel inside the campus for Hotel Management students. And there’s SRM Hospital, for medical college students, which treats students from hostels for free....

Cultural diversity:

Some people speak Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Bengali, Assamese, Kannada, Malayalam, Oriya, Rajasthani, Gujarati, Konkani, Chinese, and a bunch of Nigerian languages like Hausa, and Igbo. I know a Nigerian guy who was going out with a Tamil girl and a Punjabi guy with a Chinese girl. And relationships among Indians who speak different languages are very common. English is spoken usually on campus, but you are also most likely to hear Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. There are several Chinese students in the college and also Nigerians, who are supported by their government with scholarships. Few of them are over 40 and are extremely interested in studying....

Clubs:

There are several clubs for everything from Contraptions to Web designing, Face Painting to Campus CRY chapters. Well, there’s a Robotics club too, like in every other college. If you have a passion for something and you can’t find a club for it, you can very well go ahead and start it. The management is all ears to new clubs. They give out labs or classrooms to conduct meetings. You just have to find the right people in the higher management to take you through all these, and it takes a little time before you figure out the right person. The Dean guy is very helpful in extracurricular stuff. And similar to most of other colleges, we have a technical fest and a cultural fest. Though tech fests have become quite boring with people like Ankit Fadia [ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ankit_Fadia ] getting invited for special lectures, cultural fests are very interesting with bands from different parts of the country. They have innumerable activities and the campus goes wild. That’s one part of every year you shouldn’t miss. And yeah, the prize money for both tech fests and cultural fests is huge....

Research:

If you have a good idea, then the college is ready to fund any amount for it. Where do you think all the money goes which it gets from each student? Not just for buildings, they do fund awesome projects. During my undergrad, SRM built a nanosatellite and launched it from the ISRO space station in Srihari Kota. It spent crores on this project and several students are well placed and in premium institutions with this research experience. Few students went to NASA to participate in competitions. And college most of the time, funds at least half of the money spent, if a student goes abroad to present a paper....

Study Abroad Programs:

As far as I know, this program is the best in a country like India. It gave a chance for several students to study for a semester at MIT, Harvard, UC-Davis, etc. You can check out the school’s website for more details on this. They have recently had MoUs with several other universities. Twining programs, Dual degree programs with institutions like Carnegie Mellon, etc. What else do you want a university that is much easier to get into than IITs, providing you an opportunity to study a semester at MIT....

Placements:

80-90 percent of the students were placed in this course. The highest package offered was 42.5 LPA by Amazon and the lowest package was 12 LPA at Fidelity investment with an average package of about 20-24 LPA. Top recruiting companies like Amazon, Bajaj FinServ, IBM, Infosys, Pfizer, Philips, SAP, Sutherland, Tek Systems, Vedanta, and Amdocs are here for us. Every student tries to secure a good internship which leads to the impression at placement grounds. The top roles offered are that of machine learning engineer, data engineer, artificial intelligence engineer, model developer, robotics automation trainer, and others....

Infrastructure:

The facilities and infrastructure available for this course are very wide including a center for AI, an intel intelligence lab, an AI-Robo lab, and a computing technologies lab dedicated to AI. The Department facilitates all the necessary benchmarks for the students. Classrooms are well maintained with air conditioning facilities. The hostel provided by the college management was fine and secure, being safe for both the girls and the boys having all the facilities required....

Hostel Rating:

There are specific unisex hostels for specific years and yes I chose to stay in hostels for all my college years by choice. But, if you can live outside, I’d recommend you go for it as it’d be less costly, with better food and more North Indian friends if you’re looking for one. In hostels, most of them are South Indian guys only and even the food is mostly south. However, they provide both North and South dishes daily. And, you’ll get chicken/paneer for two days, Wednesday and Sunday. The availability of warm water to drink as well as for showers is available appropriately. So both the options are better to go with Hostel or rented rooms. Just, the difference is going to be in prices and food. So, overall go with your choice...

Weather:

According to me, life in SRM Chennai is pretty good. It is dependent upon you and how you cope with everything in college life, especially your studies. There are ample opportunities for a student and the campus life is way better than you think. The library is humongous and has a variety of good books related to every subject. The canteen food is great. Nearby is McDonald’s, dominos and the subway is inside the campus. Heat in Chennai is excessive in March, April, and May. The rest of the year it has pleasant weather. Heat in July and August is tolerable. You can study easily without any complications....

College Fest is awesome and clubs for racing and semi-conductors helped me gain some level of practical knowledge. The aesthetic view of the campus will make you feel like you are at one of the best universities in India. One of the best auditoriums in Asia where approximately 2500 students can adjust comfortably Excellent reputation SRM University is recognised as one of the best universities in India What I like about this university is its events, the events held at this university are the best Food is also best and no issues for our health so that concentrate on studies....
