The National Institutional Ranking Framework 2023 for engineering has been released. 8 of the 23 IITs are in the top 10 of the Ministry of Human Resource Development-NIRF engineering ranking.
The NIRF ranking of engineering colleges is based broadly on five parameters, namely:

- Research and Professional Practice
- Perception
- Outreach and Inclusivity
- Graduation Outcome

List of Top IITs in India 2024: Check NIRF Ranking, Courses, Fees & Placement
IITs in India: IIT Kharagpur was the first Indian Institute of Technology to be established in 1951. Currently, the total number of IITs stands at a whopping 23. The Indian Institutes of Technology are autonomous public institutes of higher education governed by the 1961 Institutes of Technology Act. The Act has designated the IITs as “Institutions of National Importance”. They’re considered the most prestigious engineering colleges in India, and getting admission into their B.Tech course is extremely competitive.
In 2023, the total number of BTech seats in all the IITs put together is around 16,053. So, of all the aspiring candidates appearing for JEE Advanced examination, less than 1% get admission into an IIT. According to the NIRF engineering ranking of 2023, eight IITs are placed in the top 10 engineering schools in India. To get admission in any of the 23 IITs, aspirants need to qualify for JEE Mains as well as appear in the JEE Advanced examination.
