Other Excretory Organs
In addition to the above-mentioned excretory organs, there are other organs that perform the function of excretion. They are:
Skin
- The main function of skin is to protect the different body organs.
- The skin also contributes to excretion through the production of sweat by sweat glands.
Lungs
- Lungs are the primary respiratory organs with some excretory functions as well.
- They are responsible for the excretion of gaseous wastes, mainly carbon dioxide from cellular respiration in cells throughout the body.
Liver
- It has a crucial role in excreting waste from the body.
- It breaks down many substances in the blood such as toxins.
- It also excretes bilirubin — a waste product of haemoglobin catabolism — in bile.
Large intestine
- The main excretory function of the large intestine is to eliminate solid waste that remains once food is broken down and water is drawn from the indigestible matter.
Diagram of Excretory System
The diagram of human excretory system shows that it is a complex system that eliminates waste materials from the body. The wastes are byproducts of metabolism that are removed from the body through urine, feces, or sweat. The diagram of excretory system in human beings shows that it consists of a pair of kidneys and ureters, a urinary bladder, and a urethra. The diagram of the excretory system in class 10 and class 11 is an important topic in the biology syllabus.
