What is Salient Pole Rotor?
Salient Pole Rotor have mounted poles that are located on a large diameter. These types of rotors have smaller axial lengths than other types of rotors. Salient Pole Rotors are generally used in that system where the speed range varies between low to medium speeds or below 1500 RPM. These rotors can generate high torque at a low speed as it has a larger pole surface area.
Salient Pole Rotor Vs Non-Salient Pole Rotor
A rotor is a rotating part of a motor or a machine. This part consists of a multi-pole electromagnet which produces the electrical power. There are two different types of rotors i.e. Salient Pole Rotor and Non-Salient Pole Rotor. Salient Pole Rotor is a type of rotor which have multiple salient poles and they all are located on a mounted wheel.
On the other side, a Non-Salient Pole Rotor is a cylindrical rotor that is small in diameter and has a long axial length. In this article, we are going to discuss the differences between the Salient Pole Rotor and Non-Salient Pole Rotor in detail.
