What is the structure of the ITP?
The TOEFL ITP shares a similar structure with the TOEFL PBT. Like the PBT, the ITP comprises three sections: Reading, Listening, and Structure & Written Expression. However, unlike the PBT, the ITP does not include an essay writing component. Nevertheless, the two tests exhibit substantial similarities. The Reading, Listening, and Structure sections of the ITP closely mirror those of the PBT.
The Listening section of the TOEFL ITP is generally considered to be easier compared to the Listening section of the more widely taken TOEFL iBT. Audio tracks in the ITP Listening section tend to be shorter, and the questions are less complex than those in the PBT Listening section. The TOEFL ITP Listening section consists of 50 questions to be completed within a 35-minute timeframe, with scores ranging from 31 to 68.
In the Reading section of the TOEFL ITP, test-takers encounter passages similar to those found in the iBT, with some passages approximately 800 words long, academic in nature, and written at a university level. Additionally, shorter, less academic passages are also included in this section. The Reading section comprises 50 questions to be completed within 55 minutes, with scores ranging from 31 to 67.
The Structure section of the TOEFL ITP evaluates grammar rules and examines test-takers’ English-language proofreading skills. Like the ITP Listening section, the Structure section has a score range of 31 to 68 and consists of 40 questions to be answered within 25 minutes.
Overall, the TOEFL ITP consists of three sections with a total of 140 questions, to be completed within a duration of 1 hour and 55 minutes. Scores for the entire test range from 310 to 677.
