MyJourney As An Engineering Student

Hello future engineers, I’m pursuing my bachelor’s degree from the Institute of Technical Education and Research, SOA Deemed to be University. In this article, I’ll help you to figure out how you can start your journey by sharing my experiences from schooling to my present situation.

In 2020 my 10th class I scored 84% on CBSE boards, I decided to pursue my career further in computer science so, I took PCM as my stream where my subjects were Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science and English. It was the year 2020 when COVID-19 hit suddenly all over the world and impacted everyone. After all the discussions with my parents and mentors, we decided to take admission to a good school for senior secondary education which was ODM Public School, Bhubaneswar.

In 2022 I scored 79% in my 12th boards under CBSE. During my 12th class, I joined Aakash Institute for coaching on JEE Mains and Advance. Had an amazing experience during that stage of my phase. However, due to some family disturbance, I fell into High Functioning Depression which somewhere somehow affected my studies and my preparation. I used to isolate myself and started overeating and a lot more was going on at that time.

Slowly I was getting cured by attending counselling sessions with my doctor. Then I cracked my JEE but couldn’t make it because I was selected for Civil Engineering in IIT Bombay but my parents didn’t want me to go due to my mental health and suicidal thoughts, and even I was passionate about computers and software.

Then I chose a private college out of concern it was chosen by my parents and went with my parent’s decision. Now I’m in my 2nd year in the CSE branch with Cybersecurity Specialization. In my first year of college, I learned from many fundamental courses from Udemy, read GFG articles, and started learning from YouTube. then along with this, I used to do some contest programming from various sources GFG PRACTICE, CODECHEF and all. My approach towards my starting of engineering is to understand fundamentals clearly and focus on improving my technical skills.

Right now I’m doing a lot of stuff like cloud computing, competitive programming, ethical hacking, etc. I’m having an amazing journey in college with a feeling of regression for not joining IIT. I wish that if depression hadn’t taken over my mind I would have been in a great position.

As an advice, I can say that never let your mental health control you.

Thank You!!!
