TCS NQT Exam Experience At TCS Gitobitan, Kolkata 2024

On 29 April 2024, I had the opportunity to take the TCS National Qualifier Test (NQT) at TCS Gitobitan in Kolkata. My slot was in the second half, from 2 PM to 5:10 PM. Here’s a recap of my experience and insights into the test.

Arrival and Check-In

I arrived at TCS Gitobitan well before the reporting time, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness. The registration process was smooth and efficient. After verifying my ID and admit card, I was guided to my designated seat on the 5th floor.

Exam Structure and Pattern

The TCS NQT 2024 was divided into two main sections: the Foundation Section and the Advanced Section.

Foundation Section:

  • Numerical Ability: 20 questions, 25 minutes
  • Reasoning Ability: 20 questions, 25 minutes
  • Verbal Ability: 25 questions, 25 minutes

Advanced Section:

  • Advanced Quantitative Ability: 10 questions, 25 minutes
  • Coding Section: 2 questions, 90 minutes

Exam Experience

Numerical Ability:

The Numerical Ability section consisted of 20 questions to be answered in 25 minutes. I found this section to be of moderate difficulty. It covered a range of topics from basic arithmetic to more complex problems involving algebra and geometry. The key was to balance speed with accuracy to complete as many questions as possible within the given time.

Reasoning Ability:

The Reasoning Ability section also had 20 questions to be completed in 25 minutes. This section was relatively easy compared to the others. It included logical puzzles, pattern recognition, and analytical questions. Clear thinking and quick decision-making were essential to breeze through this section.

Verbal Ability:

The Verbal Ability section consisted of 25 questions to be answered in 25 minutes. The questions were generally of easy to medium difficulty, involving comprehension passages, sentence completion, and grammar. Managing time efficiently was key to handling this section well.

Advanced Quantitative Aptitude:

The Advanced Quantitative Ability section had 10 questions to be completed in 25 minutes. This section posed medium-level challenges. It required solid practice to manage the time constraints effectively, as the questions demanded a good understanding of mathematical concepts.

Advanced Coding:

The Coding section was the most challenging part of the exam. It included two questions to be solved in 90 minutes:

  1. Write a program to generate the Fibonacci series and find the sum of elements up to N terms.
  2. Determine the number of distinct values of the bitwise OR of subarrays of a given input array.

We had to write the complete code from scratch, making this section demanding in terms of both logic and time management.

Overall Difficulty and Reflections

Overall, I found the TCS NQT 2024 to be of medium difficulty. The key to success was a solid understanding of standard Data Structures and Algorithms (DSA). While some sections were more manageable, the coding section required intensive problem-solving skills and efficient time management.

In conclusion, taking the TCS NQT 2024 at TCS Gitobitan, Kolkata was an intense yet rewarding experience. The test demanded thorough preparation and quick thinking. For anyone preparing for this exam, my advice is to focus on the fundamentals and practice managing your time effectively.
