UGEE IIITH Exam Experience

Hello, IIITH aspirants for dual degrees. I am from first-year undergraduate majoring in Computer Science and Engineering.

What is the UGEE of IIITH?

The UGEE(Undergraduate Entrance Examination) of the International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad is an opportunity to pursue a dual degree that earns two degrees: B.Tech and a Master of Science by Research. The Masters degree requires completion of a research thesis. The duration of the programme is 5 years. The eligibility is to be passed in 12th or equivalent with Maths, Physics and Chemistry.

Exam Pattern:

The exam consists of two sections SUPR(Subject Proficiency test) for 60 minutes which constitutes the questions of Maths, Physics, and Chemistry of the Intermediate syllabus. Students are filtered based on the score of the SUPR.

The next section is REAP(Research Aptitude test) for 120 minutes which has three sub-sections:

  1. Case study problems, graphical problems of Maths, Physics, and Chemistry.
  2. Algebra and geometry-related questions
  3. Reasoning and Data Interpretation.

After filtering through the SUPR score, they are ranked by the score of REAP. Both sections have 25% negative marking. The exams are conducted in Proctored centres in Hyderabad.

Students shortlisted from this exam have to clear an interview to gain admission. The decision on the final offer of admission is solely based on the interview performance.

Preparation Strategy:

There is no specific content for preparing for this exam online. But there is this website named iiitprep.com that offers wonderful courses to crack this exam. There are even previous year question paper books of UGEE at prep, I have solved all of them which made my preparation level extraordinary. I have prepared the syllabus for intermediate and was able to attempt the exam confidently. For people who are preparing for JEE Mains, the first section of the exam, the Subject Proficiency test has the difficulty level of JEE Mains. Solving JEE Mains’ previous year’s question papers can help a lot too.

Exam Experience:

I started my paper with Chemistry as the questions were easy, then the maths paper consisted of many easy and less time-consuming questions so I jumped to maths and performed very well. The physics paper was tough, so I managed to attempt a few theory and formula-based questions. I did not attempt the whole paper, but only the questions I am confident with. Moreover, the difficulty of question papers varies from year to year. Be confident with your preparation no matter how the question paper is. I scored 86 and was eligible for the interview.

It was a personal interview, where I was asked to introduce myself, the reason for choosing a dual degree at IT Hyderabad and the major I was interested in. it went on well and I got an Electrical engineering dual degree seat. No technical questions were asked of me, but some people were asked technical questions too.

Tips and Tricks:

  1. Time Management is highly important.
  2. Don’t stress out on the day of the exam. Be confident. And attempt the questions you know perfectly only.
  3. This is a highly prestigious exam with an interview, Don’t give up!!. Give your best.
  4. SUPR is just the eligibility, concentrate more on REAP.
  5. Revise concepts regularly and practice the mock papers for better results.
  6. Be confident with what you know and answer the questions clearly during the interview.

Thanks for your time and patience. Hope the content is useful. All the best for your future endeavours.
