WBJEE Exam Experiences

Thus, the WBJEE examination became an important step and a steep in my learning process. Preparation for it was quite challenging, which required many weeks of intense concentration and hard work. My journey started from Mumbai, a city that derives its strength from its ασύgee seam of vitality. Sitting in the midst of the Mumbai and bustle, a commitment was made to concentrate solely on the study of the exam. Long hours of studying followed by tough coaching sessions in Roa Academy, hours spent on solving papers and reading through textbooks and journals became a routine. The dream was to be placed in Jadavpur University, which was renowned as one of the finest engineering colleges, and I was ready to make it there.

Looking into the future, as the day of the exam drew closer, tension ran high. I had chosen my travel from Mumbai to Durgapur very carefully because being in a training session requires focus and any hitch would lead to a distraction. To reach my destination of Durgapur, I had to book a flight from Mumbai to Kolkata as there are no direct flight connectivity which is the nearest major city and then I had to book a train ticket from this city to Durgapur. What is more, the basics of the journey were severely planned but, inspite of that, there was always some kind of an anxiety. But then, out on the day before the exam I headed out to a new territory and away from the comfort of Mumbai. This flight to Kolkata had a tint of anxiety mixed with excitement in itself. It was a flurry of swift equation figuring and theorems’ whizzing in my head. Still, I attempted to recall some songs that I heard a while ago, to read something light, but my minds constantly wandered back to the exam. In such conditions when I received the first shock of arrival in Kolkata knowing that the journey has started actually made me understand the truth behind it.

It took some hours to find my way around the Kolkata’s busy airport before taking a train from Howrah Railway Station. What followed was a three-hour train ride from Chandan to Durgapur which provided temporary relief during the process. The rolling train carried me through the scenic greenery of West Bengal and as the night approached I recast my eyes over the notes. The sound of the train and its movements in rhythm with the tracks seemed to offer a level of tranquility in the midst of the hurricane brewing inside of me.

Preparation Phase

During my preparation, I focused on a combination of foundational texts and WBJEE-specific guides: During my preparation, I focused on a combination of foundational texts and WBJEE-specific guides:

1. Physics:

  • The ‘Concepts of Physics’, authored by H. C. Verma
  • Secondary education involves studying for fifth and sixth standards where students use text books like “NCERT Physics” for Classes XI and XII.
  • Sample papers and papers of previous years

2. Chemistry:

  • The sets of “NCERT Chemistry” textbooks of class XI and XII are the most popular in schools these days.
  • This book is intended to provide fundamental knowledge and detailed study of physical chemistry and its subtopics; it is essentially the second edition of the book “Physical Chemistry” composed by O. P. Tandon.
  • Organic Chemistry Books Morrison and Boyd

3. Mathematics:

  • With all these in mind, a text that holds immense potential for use in teaching and learning of mathematics is the popular Objective Mathematics by R. D. Sharma.
  • The textbook is ‘’IIT Mathematics’’ written by M. L. Khanna.
  • PRACTICE books that are specifically for the WBJEE by Arihant and Disha publications

Exam Day Strategy

The WBJEE exam consists of three subjects: Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs): MCQs of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics are divided into three types according to their level of difficulty.

1. Category 1: Multiple choice questions where there is only one correct answer or fill-in-the-blanks are used.

2. Category 2: A type of MCQ that has several possible right answers from which the candidate is allowed to choose one.

3. Category 3: One type of question is the type of questions asking for the numerical value, for example, multiple-choice or fill in the blank questions of a number.

On the day of the exam, I devised a strategy to maximize efficiency and accuracy:On the day of the exam, I devised a strategy to maximize efficiency and accuracy:

1. Mathematics First: Since Mathematics is my best subject, I first began with it to ensure with obtained more marks earlier on. Therefore, solving these questions first enabled me to get a better confidence boost.

2. Physics Next: After that, I delved into completing Physics as this subject mainly involves both reasoning and computations. Each theory was followed by the application of the content, which kept me alert and better tackled the material that at times appeared rather boring.

3. Chemistry Last: I saved Chemistry for the last because partially it is theory which can be quickly reviewed at the more difficult numerical problems make it up. At this point, I was getting the flow, which made it easier to provide accurate solutions to even the more complex of the problems.

Exam Environment

The exam environment was highly controlled and systematic: The exam environment was highly controlled and systematic:

Strict Invigilation: Provided concrete measures against cheating so that none could be done during the tests.

Comfortable Seating: This was done taking into consideration space that was available with a view of ensuring that each student of the class had enough space in which to concentrate.

Necessary Amenities: So, facility like water and washrooms being basic infrastructural requirements were fairly well managed so that no embarrassment occurred during the examination.

Additional Details

In fact, as is suggested by the name WBJEE, the West Bengal Joint Entrance Exam is a highly competitive entrance exam and the tension is clearly visible. To keep my head low was all that was required of me all along. Mock tests and previous years question papers prove beneficial for understanding the tricks, tips to divide the sections to manage time effectively. These practice tests should be used to see what areas need improvement but planning and preparation to avoid committing the following:

The moment I arrived at Durgapur, I was relieved to find that it was a much more peaceful and calm place compared to Mumbai. To get to the exam center I still had to travel by road for another 20 kilometers because the college where the exams were to be held was situated in areas that was almost outskirts of the city. I found myself too much involved in some crucial planning that I did not bother about the rough roads instead of the smooth train.

There were masses of students from different states eager for freedom and self-realization in the college campus. People were excited, nervous, and anxious to watch the program or in open hi where they were waiting to get there. There was my specific designated examination room; I inhaled and sat for the test.

Months of dedication and rising time was summed up in those few hours. The exam was very difficult, it was a stress-check that how much I had prepared for it and how much I could bear to get scared without getting distracted. I approached each question passionately as I had only one thing in mind – to bring out all I had learnt in these classes. It was a curious combination – the relief I felt after telling the truth and the exhaustion I had afterwards as we were closing the case. The trip to Mumbai had been one of those which I felt I could do better in some areas and which I was pleased with in others.

The outcomes of the rankings were declared, in which I got a rank of 8000. It was a decent rank, However, it was not sufficient to secure admission for Jadavpur University for which I always aspired for. The feeling of the spirit sinking was short-lived, replaced by one of achievement nonetheless. I had performed my very best, and the road leading to the elusive success had been a school of life, which showcased the best aspects of my character – determination, hard work and striving for the best.

Thus, although I never got the opportunity to attend Jadavpur University, this endeavor wasn’t futile. It was more of a starting point for what I was going to do next in my life. The difficulties encountered, the concepts absorbed, and the things done during the programs would prepare him effectively for whatever lay ahead. I was up for other challenges to advance in my career goals and experience more success in engineering as I had strived for throughout my carrier.
