How to Generate AI Images in Google Search With a Text Description

The new AI image generator feature integrated directly into Google Search has begun rolling out.

Today, Google announced that by using artificial intelligence, users can generate images and documents from searches. These new features aim to inspire and facilitate users’ creative process.

Image creation functionality is coming to the search giant through SGE (Search Generative Experience). The SGE app lets users type a text prompt to describe what they want to generate, like “an oil painting of a cat riding a skateboard.” SGE will then send them up to four AI-generated images that match their description. When users tap on an image, they can see and edit the descriptive text prompt to tweak it until it matches what they want.

Then, when you search for an image on Google, if you have SGE enabled, you may see a block that says “Create something new.”. This will allow you to create an image by clicking on it.

It’s currently only available in English for users over 18 in the United States. But Google says it has safeguards to minimize harmful content, and every AI-generated picture has metadata and watermarks that tell you it’s artificial.

The AI-aided SGE will help you create written drafts, too. By telling SGE to write about converting a garage into a home office, users can ask it to write a one-page summary about how to do it. Afterwards, users can export the draft text to Google Docs or Gmail so it can be edited based on their needs.
