Sonbhadra

  • Two thermal power plants in Sonbhadra’s Obra have received government approval in Uttar Pradesh.
  • The cost to build the power plants, which will each have an 800 Megawatt (MW) capacity, is Rs 18,000 crore.
  • In a 50/50 partnership with National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), the projects will be carried out.

Lucknow

  • The India Literacy Board in Lucknow is planning to build a literacy museum on its property, also known as Literacy House.
  • In order to draw in domestic and foreign tourists, the board has also asked the state tourism bureau to designate the campus as a destination for literacy tourism.
  • The museum’s foundation stone will be put in July 2023, and construction is expected to be finished in the following year

Varanasi

  • The Hindu shrine Manikarnika Ghat in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, will shortly get a makeover with the addition of green crematoriums and other amenities.
  • The Manikarnika Ghat’s “greenatoriums,” also known as “green crematoriums,” will dispose of the dead in an environmentally responsible manner. Green crematoriums will burn the bodies inside the chambers using a combination of an electric heater and a wood pyre.

  • There are now labels on seven different products from Uttar Pradesh that are traceable to the Chennai Geographical Indications Registry.
  • “Amroha Dholak,” “Mahoba Gaura Patthar Hastashlip,” “Mainpuri Tarkashi,” “Sambhal Horn Craft,” “Baghpat Home Furnishings,” “Barabanki Handloom Product,” and “Kalpi Handmade Paper” are among the products that have acquired the Geographical Indication (GI) mark.

  • On its campus, Allahabad University (AU) will start offering Ph.D. programs in three different languages.
  • The institution has already created a framework for conducting PhDs in three languages—French, Russian, and German—following the institution Grants Commission’s (UGC) authorization for PhDs to be supervised by teachers even during their probationary year of employment.
