The Stonehenge: Overview and Location
Located in the plain of Salisbury, Wiltshire, England, Stonehenge is the most iconic prehistoric monument to ever exist. It is a structure of multiple stone circles believed to be built by priests of the Celts, and the Druids, for sacrificial ceremonies.
Founded in the Bronze Age dated around years ago 5000 during 2500 BC. The overall structure has the formation of huge stones, mainly Sarsen and Bluestones, with heights 4m, 1m thick, and 2m wide, weighing 25 tons each. The premise covers a total area of 6,500 acres, which is as big as 7.5 times New York City’s Central Park and falls under the coordinates, 51.1789˚N 1.8262˚W. The popular sight is also listed as one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites, marked as a Cultural type location.
The sight that remains today is a doomed version of the original design. It is believed to be initially erected as, vertical standing Sarsen rocks in circular formation each with a 1m gap and connecting lintel stones on top, concluding a circular perimeter intact. Inside was the Inner ring of Bluestones and free-standing Triliths.
