Preparing for the Test Session at Home
- Candidates must set up the testing area and resolve any equipment issues before the scheduled test time by running a final ProctorU Equipment Check.
- Gather necessary materials such as acceptable identification, note-taking materials like a plastic transparency sheet or whiteboard, and a handheld mirror or cell phone for check-in.
- Dress appropriately, ensuring that the ears and face are visible to the proctor, while refraining from wearing jewelry or accessories, including facemasks.
- Ensure no other devices are connected to the internet during the test.
- Verify that the testing area meets all eligibility requirements, including a quiet and well-lit room with a clear tabletop surface and a chair positioned so that the proctor can see the door.
Checking In During the Test at Home
- The check-in process for TOEFL iBT Home Edition or the Paper Edition (speaking section) may take approximately 20 minutes.
- Candidates must check in within 12 minutes after the scheduled time to avoid test cancellation without a refund.
- The proctor may request candidates to use a cell phone or handheld camera to show their computer screen and provide a 360Ā° view of the room, ensuring a clean tabletop surface.

- Candidates must refrain from using unauthorized materials such as prewritten notes, mobile devices, or textbooks, including during the 10-minute break.
