How to Determine the Pole Orientation?
There are two ways to determine the pole orientation of a magnet:
Using a compass: A compass needle is a small magnet that lines up with Earth’s magnetic field. When you place a magnet near a compass, the poles will attract or repel each other. The north pole of the magnet will attract the south pole of the compass needle, and vice versa.
Suspending the magnet: If you suspend a magnet from a string so it can spin freely, it will eventually line up north-south with Earth’s magnetic field. The end that points north is the magnet’s north pole.
Magnetic Pole
Magnetic poles are one of the fundamental concepts in magnetism, describing the regions of a magnet where the magnetic force is the strongest. There are two types of magnetic poles: the north pole and the south pole.
In this article, we will learn about Magnetic Poles, determination of magnetic poles, magnetic strength, and other terms related to magnets.
