In 2021, the amount dropped to around 4.2 million hectoliters. China has about 450 wineries that make 1.2 billion liters of wine every year. The biggest area for making wine is Yantai-Penglai, which makes 40% of all the wine in China.

International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV) reported that in 2022, world wine production (excluding juice and musts) was estimated to be around 260 million hectoliters, showing a slight increase from the previous year. The top wine-producing countries remain Italy, France, and Spain.
