American Revolutionaries: James Madison (1751-1836)
He was a close friend of Thomas Jefferson. He played a key role in shaping American politics and governance. He was from Virginia and was involved in state politics. In 1787, at the Constitutional Convention, he emerged as the key figure who advocated for a federal structure with three branches- legislature, executive, and judiciary. He was one of the main authors of the American Constitution and the Bill of Rights which earned him the name of Father of the Constitution. He also became the fourth president of the the United States in 1808.
